Working isn't easy with trying to pick up as much overtime as possible, socialising and being there for your friends and even harder when your brothers are also on half term.
That said I have made an effort to get some done. I worked on printing everything off and getting it stuck down. I also continued the observational drawings.
With all the images compiled from vionnet, downton abbey and on symbolism including Egyptian hieroglyphs and synonyms (as this is a way if hiding or obscuring meaning). All the symbols collected have meaning relating to my theme such as fun, joy, dancing etc.
Next week hopefully I'll get more toiling done and I can show you a near full sketch book. If I don't get bogged down with updating my FMP diary.

FMP post 2
This week I didn't get as much done as I had hoped or planned. I did more work on my observational drawings but before I could focus on this I needed to finish the research for that page and stick what I have down to fit the drawings in.
This week I researched the Egyptian deities, hieroglyphs and the synonymous nature of the ancient Egyptians. As well as this I continued to gather images about Vionnet and Chanel. Today I also gathered relevant images from downton abbey as some of this was set in the 20's also.

Next weeks plan of action: pattern/ toile work, finish observational drawings and finish sticking in info for theme research and Egypt.

FMP post 1
As those who have read my blog before will know, I am doing my FMP and have to document my progress. The assignment title is individual to us and we get to chose our own titles. After much brainstorming I narrowed mine down to Hidden Messages - What We See Everyday. To qualify this further I am looking at Fonts and how things mean more than just face value. The inspiring font for this assignment is

My first step was to research. This font is very reminiscent of the 1920's so this was where I started. In This time, America was more influential than Britain so I focused more closely with the American 1920's.
My research has been fun I have used the internet as does everyone but I also got books from the library on art deco movement, and Egypt. Egyptology was massive in the 20's because of the discovery of King Tut's tomb so to research further I went to the great Egypt display at British museum. Now the fun parts. To further research I used films. There are great films set in the 20's Bugsy Malone, Great Gatsby and The Mummy to name a few and i used these for inspiration.
I had already started drafting my patterns and had already started my first toile. I forgot it this week so I started on other patterns. In one lesson I finished a legging pattern and am halfway through mt vest shirt.
I also finished a large percentage of my era research! Very productive week! As I had work today I don't plan on getting anything finished but my aim for this next week - Finish my observational drawings.

I'm Back
So I haven't posted in a while I know but that will change.
For my marketing unit assignment at the Fashion Retail Academy, I have to blog about my progress on my Final Major Project. This will include relevant facts I think are worth sharing, images of my sketchbook and patterns, maybe a toile or two and possibly even the finished garments.
Each week I'll update my blog on the progress I have made and will evaluate any shortcomings I have. This will be an online diary during the course of my project and hopefully I can see how much I'm doing (or not depending we have a month off for easter =P ) check back for updates on my project and to see my new ideas growing!
